It's that time of week again! I can't believe the giveaways are almost over. That means basketball (NCAA) is almost over for the whole season. BOO. That makes me super sad. What cheers me up in times like this? Normally, food. I heart food. But since I'm super "healthy" and what-not, I just run a little bit. That takes my mind off depressing things (like waiting lots and lots of months for basketball to return)!
But let's pretend I am turning to food. Yummmmm.....food. Delicious. Okay, seriously. I know the blog I posted last week was kind-of about food. This week, I have a different take. First of all, let me say that I cook dinner for my family every night. Well, one day is a "pick what you want" day. But for the most part, I cook. I plan a menu, I stick to a strict budget, and I try lots of new recipes. With that being said, I like to eat out, too. How about you? (I can see you all nodding slowly).
Sooooo.......this week you can share a favorite recipe (which could perhaps be quite a pain), or you can tell me your favorite restaurant! Since I'm the one running the show, I'm choosing the easy way out. It is very hard to pick a favorite restaurant (but easier than typing a recipe). And if you've been following my blog (as you should have been) since the beginning, you know my love for Taco Bell. I will not choose that. I will go a different route and say my favorite restaurant is The Cheesecake Factory. Yup. I picked it (and not Taco Bell). And not only do I have to share the where but I have to share the what. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the four cheese pasta. YUM. My stomach might be growling right now! Okay it IS growling right now.
If you are going to share a restaurant, make sure you share what your favorite menu item is. If you don't, you're in trouble! HA! But seriously.......
If you're going to share a recipe, knock yourself out! I LOVE trying new things. Hopefully it's not too hard to type one out. But I realize some people might not go out a lot and might not want to talk about stinkin' restaurants! So be it! I won't judge you (too much).
What will the winner receive? Well, let me tell you. The winner will get some recipe cards (and yes, I will share some of my favorites) and a $10 gift card to Panera Bread. You have to have a back-up planned in case your meal fails, right? Or if you need to satisfy your bagel craving.....you'll be set!
The rules are the same. I need to see ten peeps comment and I will draw the winner on Saturday night (8 PM). Good luck, fellow eaters! :)

I have 2 recipes to share. The first is a fun and easy summer time salad.
Party Salad
1 large carton Cool Whip
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 can Eagle Brand Milk
1 cup coconut
1 (13 1/4 oz) can crushed pineapple, drained
1 cup marshmallows
1 can cherry pie filling
Mix Cool Whip and Eagle Brand Milk. Add other ingredients, and chill overnight.
The next is a main course.
Cafe' Rio Pork
1 pork roast
1 cup of brown sugar
1 cup of salsa (we use more)
Place ingredients in crock pot and cook on low for 8 hours or more. After cooking, shred meat. Serve with tortillas, cheese, avacodo, tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream...and anything else you would like!
And my kids FAVORITE place to eat is Panera Bread (or St. Louis Bread Co to us)!!!
Dear Sarah, I love the Bagel Shop in Broadripple, I like the GinBlossom sandwich. Miss you!!
I love Tuchanos in Provo. I love their bacon wrapped turkey...and everything else there- super unhealthy.
I love the recipes before! I'm totally going to try them! I decided to give the Fishers's cookbook and found on page 86, "The Barbecue Meatballs" They are so good and you eat them with rice. If you really need the recipe, I can get it for you, but seriously, I'm not normally a meatball fan, but these things are good.
I LOVE Olive Garden...their breadsticks dipped in alfredo sauce and to DIE for! YUM! I also love Zupas...if I'm allowed to leave 2! They are my favorite lunch place at the moment! And...I love you! Cuz you rock!
I'd have to say that my favorite place to eat is The Chop House in Lexington. They have excellent seafood that is grilled up to perfection and a delicious sweet corn tamale cake appetizer topped with pico de gallo...oh it's so good. That's why we only go there twice a year. It wouldn't be good for me to go more than that. :o)
Kristi - I have never eaten there. Sounded kind of scary since the word CHOP was part of their name. Now I've got to get my rear over there!!!
wow, this is hard!! I have to say choosing a fave restaurant is kind of hard. So..how's about I share an appetizer recipe and tell you that I love Panera Bread's Sierra Turkey sa'mich on asiago bread. Holy Moly is that a sa'mich!!! Okay...here's the recipe. It's just "mexican dip" and it's super easy.
3 bricks cream cheese, softened
1/2 envelope of taco seasoning
3/4 can of Hormel Chili with meat/no beans
2 Cups shredded cheddar.
Mix the cream cheese and taco seasoning well and lay in the bottom of a 9x13 pan. Pour the chili on top of the cream cheese and sprinkle the cheddar on top. Bake at 350 just until the cheddar melts, which could take up to 15 minutes. You need to keep an eye on it. This is my fave dip!! Enjoy! (can you tell i want to win!) heehee
Fine, I'll play. I love food too much to risk not entering this contest. (As frustrating as it is.) My favorite restaurant is--you guessed it- Max and Erma's. Or as my mom likes to call it, Erma and Franks. The absolute best thing on the menu is the tortilla soup. You haven't lived until you have eaten that. More favorites:
Red Robin--the crispy chicken salad.
TGIF Fridays--the club sandwich with lots of avocado on ciabatta bread.
Del Taco-small bean and cheese burrito with red sauce
Johny Carinos-grilled chicken ceasar salad
I'll stop. Oh, but I will add:
Panera Bread: cinnamon crunch bagel (did I score any points with that???)
Oh, and I am not avoiding your phone calls, nerd. I had a busy day! I will call tomorrow afternoon. J has her 18 mo shots and then I am hosting lunch for ms. jessie.
I LOVE all food but if i have to choose a favorite, i really really love drunken noodles at a restaurant called Thai shirlington. If you like thai food, it is super duper delishious!
Favorite Distler Family Recipe
Corn Pudding
1 can cream corn
1 can corn (don't drain)
1 box Jiffy corn mix
1 stick of butter
1 egg
1/4 cup of sugar
8 oz sour cream
Mix all together and bake at 400 for 50-60 minutes. It is a crowd pleaser at all my family gatherings!
I know I am past the drawing date (but really only come to read all the other great ideas on here), but I have a great mexican style recipe that I made in the crockpot that was easy, delicious, and HEALTHY that I thought you all may enjoy! We love spicy things in our house so you can add as much or as little heat as you want to this recipe!
Salsa Chicken
INGREDIENTS:
4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
1 cup salsa
1 package reduced sodium taco seasoning
1 can reduced fat cream of mushroom soup (condensed)
1/2 cup reduced fat sour cream
DIRECTIONS:
Add chicken to slow cooker.
Sprinkle taco seasoning over chicken.
Pour salsa and soup over chicken.
Cook on low for 6 to 8 hours.
Remove from heat and stir in sour cream.
Serve with rice.
I used the Pace Picante Hot Salsa (Use mild if not a spicy eater as this was pretty hot) and added some sliced Red, Yellow, & Green peppers to it. I also forgot to add the sour cream to it before serving and it was great without it, so either way, it is a yummy recipe! If you want to cut some of the sodium out, you can add half of the taco seasoning packet! Spencer is a picky eater, but he loved this meal (Gold star for me!), so go ahead and try it, you will earn a gold start too!
