No Cake Tonight......

Or ever!  I know I'm a sore loser but I am NOT a happy World Cup watcher today.  Obviously, Germany fell to Spain.  :(  Obviously, Billy isn't getting his German chocolate cake with coconut pecan frosting.  Obviously, I am indeed in the depths of despair (and probably did jinx myself by talking about jinxing myself in the last blog).

So for now, I'm going to be angry.  I'm sad to say I've been kinda angry ever since the game.  Thankfully, my family understands and they've left me alone.  I wish the game had been better.  I wish the German team of all the other matches had showed up today.  Alas, they leave on a bit of a sour note.  I still love them and think they did great despite their youth and their turmoil.

Today, I bid Germany farewell.  I will, of course, be watching the games on Saturday and Sunday.  After all, Germany could still come in third place.  Which I know, "If ya ain't first, you're last (according to Ricky Bobby)."  But I think third place will be acceptable....just this once! ;)

Orange You Glad I Didn't Pick Uruguay?

I am!  What a wonderful game!  I was on the edge of my seat for most of the game!  Granted, it was mainly because Lola was pushing and pulling me everywhere!  Ha.  But really, I watched every minute of the game today and can proudly say I was happy the Dutch won!  WOO HOO!  Go team orange (love the uniforms, by the way....see photo below)!

I am sad to see Uruguay go, though.  I have become a huge fan of Diego Forlan during the World Cup.  He is an amazing player and an equally amazing person.  I hope he continues to score lots and lots of goals for his club team! http://g.sports.yahoo.com/soccer/world-cup/news/maradonas-many-assists-to-uruguays--fbintl_ro-forlanmaradona070510.html

Tomorrow, oh tomorrow.  I'm very nervous for the Germany v. Spain match.  I told Billy if Germany won, I would make a German chocolate cake with coconut pecan frosting to celebrate.  If they don't, however, I will never (not EVER) bake one!  So he is REALLY rooting for the Germans! :)

If they lose (and they better not), my post tomorrow will be very difficult.  How do you blog when you are in the depths of despair?  I am hoping I will NOT have to answer that question.  And now I fear I have just jinxed myself.  However, I'm not going to delete it!

For tonight, if I wasn't on a super strict diet (which started just yesterday), I would be partaking in all things orange:  Orange Julius, orange sherbet, cheese (sharp cheddar....because it's orange), and Doritos (just some ideas).  But instead I will be eating oranges and carrots (not really).  :(

I HEART THE WORLD CUP.....have I already mentioned that?!?!?!??  ;)

Ke Nako!

Germany WON!  I was so very excited watching the game today!  I knew the very second I laid eyes on the German team, they meant business.  They may be young and the team definitely had some issues.  But right now, this is THEIR World Cup to win!

So what is "ke nako?"  That's what the little boy says at the beginning of each World Cup game intro.  What does it mean?  It means "it's time."  Lola loves listening to this and the song that follows!  She gets so excited!  I love it!  I love this month of soccer.  I think for Germany.....it's time!

I also really enjoyed the Spain game.  It was full of drama (as a lot of the games are).  David Villa scored AGAIN.  He is amazing (as is Germany's Miroslav Klose).  Everyone was talking about Messi, Torres, Rooney, etc....But the real stars of the World Cup have been Villa, Klose, and Mueller.

Unfortunately, the tournament is winding down.  We have 3 days until the next game.  It will all be over soon.  But I hope when it's all over,  Germany is the team holding the trophy!  WOOOOO HOOOOO!

Germany's star (one of them), Miroslav Klose

I have included too many photos of David Villa.  So I figured I would put one of this Spanish cutie!

And just for Blake, I have included Carles Puyol.  He gets SOOOOO angry with Carles (and yes, we're on a first name basis) because of his hair.  He just doesn't get it.  Well, Blake, I don't get it either.  It doesn't look that great! ;)

Bye Bye Brazil!

More World Cup?  FINALLY!  I missed it so much and was so happy to watch BOTH games today.  Yeah, I picked Brazil to win the game but I was super happy when The Netherlands pulled it off (so was Billy).  And so the team favored to win it all; the number one team in the world, fell to the Dutch.  I smiled.

I have to say, given the recent turmoil and drama unfolding with The Netherlands, I didn't really think they could win.  That might have been why I picked Brazil in my bracket.  Yeah, my bracket is totally messed up so I don't care anymore.

I also didn't pick Ghana to win today.  But my heart broke when they lost in such a way.  I felt so bad for the guy (Gyan) who could have won the game BEFORE the extra time and BEFORE the Ghana team lost in the penalty shoot-out.  :(

However, I was also happy when Uruguay pulled it off.  Remember the Uruguay striker, Diego Forlan?  I posted a photo of him earlier in my World Cup blogs.  Anyway, I found out today that his sister was in a terrible car accident when he was 12.  She is paralyzed.  He promised to play soccer and make enough money to pay her medical bills for the rest of her life.  What an amazing guy.  I have a whole new respect for that man.  Besides being a cutie, he has a big, gigantic heart.

And so for today, go Uruguay and go Netherlands!  Tomorrow, we shall be rooting for Germany!  I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Diego Forlan, you ROCK!

Asamoah Gyan, you made your second penalty.  You tried your best!  And for that....you ROCK, too!

Last Day Of School!

This is a "better late than never" post.  Blake finished school at the end of May but I didn't have time to post a blog about it because the World Cup started before I got around to it.  No, I don't put soccer above my child.  Or do I?  Well, anyway, here is the blog so at least I can say I got it done!  Woo hoo!

Here is Blake on the first day of school way back in August.

Here is Blake (after dropping all his things immediately and getting a popsicle) on his last day of school in May.

We spent the weekend (after the last day of school) in Louisville.  We got family photos taken and then went to play (and eat....A LOT) at Gattiland.  Here are some pics of the kidlets!

Lola, riding on the firetruck with her pal, Snoopy, and that random yellow bird thing (can't remember the name).  She LOVED this toy and rode it about 22 times.  I was okay with it because it meant I wasn't running around after her!

Blake, playing basketball.  He rocked it and scored LOTS of tickets for some AMAZING (sarcasm) prizes!  But hey, the kids had fun and that's all that matters, right?!?

I can't believe Blake is done with first grade!  He will be a big SECOND-grader next year.  I have memories from when I was that age!  Time goes by so quickly!  I'm very proud of Blake and how well he did this year in school!  WE LOVE YOU!
